Empowering Women and Girls for Sustainable Development
Women and girls play a critical role in building strong families and resilient communities. Our Women Empowerment & Gender Equality Program focuses on strengthening the social, economic, and leadership capacities of women and girls, while promoting gender equality and protection from violence and discrimination.
Many women and girls in refugee and host communities face barriers such as limited access to education, economic opportunities, and decision-making spaces. Through targeted interventions, Alight of Africa supports women to build confidence, acquire skills, access opportunities, and actively participate in community development.
Program Areas
1. Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Prevention & Response
We conduct awareness sessions, community dialogues, and referrals to prevent gender-based violence and support survivors with appropriate services.
2. Women’s Leadership & Capacity Building
We provide leadership training, mentorship, and confidence-building sessions to empower women to take active roles in community leadership and decision-making.
3. Economic Empowerment for Women & Girls
We support women and girls through skills training, entrepreneurship development, income-generating activities, and financial literacy.
4. Women’s Rights & Gender Equality Awareness
We promote understanding of women’s rights, gender equality, and inclusive practices through community sensitization and advocacy.
5. Psychosocial Support & Safe Spaces
We provide psychosocial support and create safe spaces where women and girls can share experiences, access guidance, and receive emotional support.
6. Support for Vulnerable Women & Girls
We offer targeted support to single mothers, survivors of violence, women with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups to enhance their protection and well-being.
